    Going Green on a Budget

    Going Green on a Budget

At Bartley Builder Group, we recognize the importance of environmentally friendly construction. Although it may seem challenging to achieve a green home, we have some sustainable, budget-friendly options we recommend to our clients.

    Water Conservation

There are a few ways to conserve water, one of which is to repurpose rainwater. By collecting rainwater through a gutter system and a rain barrel, you can reuse that excess water for irrigation. This method is commonly referred to as Rainwater Harvesting.

Another way to conserve water is through a tankless water heater. A traditional hot water heater works by heating a fixed amount of water and keeping it warm until you are ready to use it. While a tankless water heater only operates once you turn the water on and heats it up instantaneously. This can help reduce the amount of water wasted down the drain (as well as save electricity) when you’re waiting for your shower or sink to heat up.

    Energy Efficient Appliances and Fixtures

Energy efficient appliances can appear daunting in price but will actually save you money in the long run. Many brands offer eco-friendly appliances such as: refrigerators, washing machines, dryers, dishwashers, and more. These appliances are equipped with technology that is less energy intensive which reduces the amount of electricity needed to operate them.

A programmable thermostat is another appliance we recommend to our clients looking to go green. Programmable thermostats control the heating and cooling of your home on a schedule that you set. If you and your loved ones are out of the house throughout the day, there is no need for your Air Conditioning to be running consistently. Statistics show that nearly half of our electricity bills is from  AC, but getting a programmable thermostat benefits our ecosystem while also saving you up to 10% a year on heating and cooling.

Another highly recommended fixture to implement into your home is LED Lighting. LEDs use at least 75% less energy than incandescent bulbs and can last up to 25 times longer. LED lightbulbs are highly accessible which makes for a quick and easy way to take a step towards going green.
