Mistakes to Avoid When Building a New Home
In previous posts, we have told you why building a new home is worth it and have taken you through the process of how it is built. We find it fitting that we discuss what mistakes you can make and why you should avoid them! At Bartley Builder Group, we like to prepare our clients as much as we can before they venture into this lengthy project. With that in mind, this week’s blog is all about the mistakes we have seen clients make!
Being Impatient
While we understand that clients are eager to get their custom home built, this project requires patience! From choosing the property to the final architectural details, patience is key. Rushing the job can cause unnecessary problems and unsatisfactory work. We have witnessed impatient clients become regretfully disappointed that they did not take their time making decisions.
Cutting Corners
As a continuation of being patient, we suggest that you do not cut corners. This goes for decisions you have to make, as well as your budget. Keep in mind that you are getting what you pay for and, if you cut too many corners in your budget, it will show in the quality of your home.
Selecting the Wrong Bid
A mistake that many individuals make is accepting the lowest bid from their list of prospective contractors. This is not always the best decision and, once again, you are getting what you pay for. Instead of rejoicing the fact that one contractor submitted a bid that was drastically lower than the others, question why that is and how they concluded that number.
Choosing the Wrong Builder
Lastly, a decision that involves all of the previous advice– patience, cutting corners, and bids– choose the right General Contractor! Choosing the wrong builder can affect the quality, organization, timeliness, stress, and satisfaction of the build. It is important to vet the builder just as you would the property and final product.
We want to see our clients excited and having fun during this, otherwise quite stressful, project. If you have any more questions or concerns, feel free to reach out to us. BBG would love to help you through your home building process!
